We arrived in Cusco three flights later and felt the high altitude right away -- at first it was hard to walk and talk and still breathe enough! We took everyone's advice and had a relaxing day, and after the first 24 hours it was almost normal despite being 3,399 meters (11,152 feet) above sea level.
Diego tried what some would call the Peruvian national beverage, Inca Kola, and confirmed that it tastes like bubble gum; very, very sweet bubble gum. Walking around we saw lots of stray dogs, unusually most of them being rather gigantic.
Many old buildings set against the magnificent mountain backdrop make Cusco a picturesque place, but unfortunately the money injected by tourism has only maintained the very center of the city and most of it is dirty and dusty. It's an adequate stop to pass through in Peru, but we were happy we didn't spend more than a few days there.
